Colby is the visionary founder and CEO of Tobe Energy. With a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Tulsa, and a Master of Legal Studies in Oil, Gas, and Energy Law from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, Colby combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the energy sector’s regulatory landscape.
His career began at Markwest Energy Partners, where he managed projects up to $70MM and led a team as the Process Safety Management Engineer for the Southwest Business Unit. Transitioning to renewables, Colby spent three years as a Principal Process Engineer, witnessing firsthand the challenges posed by the high cost of hydrogen.
For the past two years, he has dedicated himself to innovating a new method of electrolysis, leading to the founding of Tobe Energy.
Joining Colby on this journey are two of his closest friends, who are both titans in their respective fields.
Colby’s decade-long relationships with Caleb Lareau and Louis Mounsey were forged through shared professional and personal endeavors. In college, Colby and Caleb worked together at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, ran two 140.6 Ironman Triathlons, and completed a 100-mile ultramarathon. Their friendship was built on late nights of research, coding, and early morning training sessions.
Similarly, Colby and Louis interned together for two summers at Markwest Energy Partners, where they worked with industry legends. Following graduation, they both joined Markwest full-time, which was later acquired by Marathon Petroleum Corporation. Their commitment to energy engineering solidified their bond, with Louis teaching Colby the indispensable value of multiple whiteboards for late night discussions on energy.
